Professional Development


The Charleston R-I Professional Development Committee is tasked with establishing and maintaining a two-year mentoring program, overseeing the 1% of state funding allocation, and assessing/advocating for faculty professional development needs.

The district Professional Development Committee is made up of 6 members (two from each building) who are elected by the building staff.

Requesting to Attend a Professional Development Opportunity:

   1. Complete the Request to Attend.
   2. Share request form (via Google) with your building administrator.
   3. Wait for approval before registering for the workshop.
The following have been selected as the focus of PD for the 2018-2019 school year:
  • Professional development focused on Classroom Management and Trauma-Informed Care in order to improve school and classroom behavior.
  • Professional Development focused on instructional technology and STEM/STEAM education in order to create 21st-century learners.
  • Professional development focused on math concepts especially in the areas of foundational skills and number sense.
  • Professional development focused on ELA concepts especially in the areas of foundational skills and reading/writing across the curriculum.
Additional Professional Development Guidelines:
  • Request to Attend must be submitted via Google.
  • Request to Attend must be submitted at least 14 days prior to the workshop.
  • The requested workshop must fit into one of the four professional development goals.
