CHS Scheduling Guides for 2020-2021 School Year

INTRODUCTION

CHS CAREER AND EDUCATIONAL PLANNING GUIDE

Charleston High School Career and Educational Planning Guide 2020-2021:
 
The information in this annual planning guide has been developed by the counseling department, administration, and teachers at Charleston High School in order to assist students with course selections each year. Use this planning guide as a reference while selecting your child's schedule.
 

9th-12th GRADE SCHEDULING FORMS

Scheduling is open for the 2020-2021 school year. According to school officials, all forms need to be returned or submitted no later than Friday, May 29. Any student who does not submit their forms will have a schedule made for them by administration.

SEMO DUEL ENROLLMENT

SEMO Duel Enrollment Application (Electronic Enrollment Form Fall 2020 DC-ECC):
Qualifying juniors and seniors must complete and return the Southeast Missouri State University dual enrollment application to Counselor Cherish Daly ([email protected]).
 
Juniors are eligible only for PY 101/ SO 102.

Seniors are eligible for PY 101/ SO 102 & EN 100/ EN 140. EN100/140 requires a sub score of 18 on the English portion of ACT. If the student does not have an ACT score or does not have at least an 18, then they can register with Ms. Daly by taking a placement test. This placement test must be taken and submitted by May 31.

HONORS PROGRAM

Freshman Honors Application:
 
Incoming Freshmen for the 2020-2021 school year who are wanting to be enrolled in the Honors Program will need to complete a Freshman Honors Application Form and take an Admissions Test.
 
Admission Tests will be scheduled for Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22, 9am – 12pm. Please contact the CHS Office to schedule a time to test.
 
Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Honors Application:
 
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors for the 2020-2021 school year do not need to test, but will need to complete and submit a new application each year.

School officials have issued a PDF version of their Scheduling Meeting slideshow, which shares all outlines for graduation and program requirements. They also issued a letter outlining details for scheduling. The letter reads:

"Dear Students and Families,

We hope this letter finds you well during these unprecedented times. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are having to do things quite differently. This letter is to inform you on scheduling and for students to choose classes for the next school year 2020-2021.

Students can either fill out the paper form and mail back or bring by the school OR they can fill out an electronic form on Google Classroom or the Charleston R-I School District Facebook page.

An Honors Program Application is also included for those who are interested. Incoming Freshmen for the 2020-2021 school year who are wanting to be enrolled in the Honors Program will need to complete a Freshman Honors Application Form and take an Admissions Test. Admission Tests will be scheduled for Thursday, May 21st and Friday, May 22nd between the hours of 9am – 12pm. Please call the school between the hours of 9am – 2pm Monday through Friday to schedule a time to test. 2020-2021 Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors do not need to test, but will need to complete a new application each year. This will also need to be mailed back or brought by the school.

If you have any questions or concerns, we will be having a Zoom Meeting on Monday, May 18th and Tuesday, May 19th both days at 5:30pm to answer all questions.

All forms need to be returned or submitted no later than Friday, May 29th. Any student who does not turn in their forms will have a schedule made for them by administration.
