According to Superintendent Jamarcus Williams, the occurrence took place at the high school football field. The student was taken into custody immediately and the weapon was apprehended. Lockdown was lifted by approximately 3:24pm.
The matter is currently under investigation.
Out of abundance of caution, Superintendent Williams is canceling school for Wednesday, March 27, and Thursday, March 28, to discuss strengthening safety protocol. This cancellation is for Charleston Jr. / Sr. High School, Charleston Middle School, and Warren E. Hearnes Elementary School.
Superintendent Williams would like to thank the building administrators, district faculty and staff, and law enforcement for their prompt and concise handling of the matter.
